Whisper

She whispers so softly,
it hardly makes a sound.
She sees her life shatter,
crashing to the ground.
She thought she could hold tightly,
that the strands wouldn't slip.
But the tighter she held,
the more she lost her grip.

If only someone was listening,
who heard her baited breath.
If this is her prayer,
it’s all she has left.
She holds on to hoping,
but the light seems so far away.
It’s hard to be happy
when you can’t see the day.

Who could love her,
a swan without her wings?
Her voice rings hollow,
empty as she sings.
She knows she’s broken,
like a doll without her strings.
She acts like she’s not bothered,
but their words still sting.

He answers just as softly,
but she hangs on every sound.
He weeps for her hurting;
He hates to see her bound.
He loves her so deeply,
she can barely even stand.
She doesn't need treasures
because Jesus understands.

She is His treasure,
His daughter and prize.
The world won’t have her,
but she’s a jewel in His eyes.
He died for her,
and then He rose again.
She doesn't understand,
but He wants to call her friend.

His love is consuming,
and her heart skips a beat.
He takes her by the hand,
it’s a marvelous feat.
He accepts her,
and she barely knows what to do.
What a joy it is
when you’re born anew.
